Desription ......... The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a strong, muscular dog. His height reaches 26.5 inches, though he can by no means be called a giant. The task of this dog is to fetch ducks from his native bay (Chesapeake Bay on the U.S. East Coast), which is usually cold. Therefore the Retriever has quite a lot of fat beneath his skin, and his coat is dense and oily. His coat color can be compared to that of dry grass. He can also be golden red and brown. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever has an inexhaustible capacity for work. He loves people and is always ready to please his owner, but that doesn’t mean that this dog is for anyone. It’s a good dog for a family living in the country that is not planning to keep a lot of dogs. A hard bristle brush and a suede cloth will help keep the coat of the Retriever in order, but they won’t save your carpets and antique armchairs.
