The Weimaraner is a representative of the Hounds, bred on the European plains. His coat is short, smooth and glossy, though there are also longhaired dogs. In both variants grooming is very simple: it needs only polishing. Even if the dog spent all day hunting or walking in the autumn mud, there would be less mud from him in the house than from other dogs.
The Weimaraner doesn’t need much food, though in cold weather you do need to give him larger portions. He needs physical training to employ his active nature. He is noted for his quick wits and can be trained rather easily. He is friendly to people, but if his house or owners are attacked, he becomes an excellent guard dog. Strangers should treat this dog cautiously.
